Sydney Power BI & Fabric User Group Meetup – March 2024

The session covered both technical and non-technical aspects of Power BI reporting – there was something for everyone! Our speakers guided us through the power of storytelling in reports and also demonstrated how to test the performance of your reporting solution by simulating the activities of tens or even hundreds of users.

Data Storytelling: Calum walked us through incorporating narratives into report design to better engage and inform users. We touched on how the art and the science overlapped, and the tangible benefits to better using data storytelling within analytics.
Power BI Realistic Load Test Tool:
Have you ever asked yourself a question: how would your reporting solution perform if 20 users accessed it simultaneously? And not just open a report page, but actively use it, for instance, applying multiple filters, using bookmarks, expanding/collapsing levels in a matrix visual that includes complex DAX measures? What if the number of users increased to 100? Or even 500? What would be your solution's response time?

This was a tricky but one of the most important questions, especially if you were dealing with business-critical, real-time, or near real-time reporting.
In this session, we discovered how this question could be answered.

We walked through the process of setting up, configuring, and running the Power BI Realistic Load Test Tool, which simulated the actions of multiple users and measured page response times, comparing them to the provided threshold!
